Hi there, and welcome to the Droids Adventures Encyclopedia! Droids launched nearly 30 years ago on September 7, 1985, and has the honor, along with Ewoks of being one of the very first two Star Wars television series. The Droids Adventures take place during the same time as the modern Star Wars: Rebels TV series, a time before R2-D2 and C-3PO ever met Luke Skywalker. Hand drawn and painted in the traditional 2D animation style by Nelvana Studios, Droids exists today as a timepiece of what Star Wars was in 1985. It was a time when the original trilogy had come to an end two years previous, and the prequel and sequel trilogies still only existed in a young fans dreams. I just happened to be one of those fans. Being 10 years old at the time that Droids and Ewoks first came to TV, Droids and Ewoks were directly intended for kids like me to enjoy. Now 30 years later, I am a nostalgic 40 year old, with 5 children of my own. For them and for other Star Wars fans born over the last 30 years, Droids is largely unfamiliar territory. No official copies of the complete series are available to be purchased at this time, and Lucasfilm, which is now owned by Disney, is heavily focused on the future with newer TV shows like Star Wars Rebels and movies in development. Droids is a forgotten chapter of the Star Wars franchise's past. Often I wish that this wasn't the case. I would like younger fans to have the chance to discover one of the original Star Wars TV shows. I would like to see characters or elements of Droids show up in modern Star Wars productions. But perhaps some of the charm of Droids is that it is one of those forgotten chapters of Star Wars. Maybe to the ones who remember it, that's part of what makes it special. A memory owned by them alone of a time that can't be replicated. A time when even after the original trilogy had come to a close, Droids came on the scene as a promise that there was much, much more Star Wars to come.
This site exists for three main reasons. As my own personal hobby, as an upgrade to the Droids specific sections of my original site Droids&Ewoks, and for the enjoyment of anyone who happens to stop by. It's a long term project that I don't always have a lot of time to work on, but hey, if I'm lucky, maybe it will be finished in another 30 years. |
